Outdoor Recreational Rowing
Sweeping
On-water sweep is offered between June and September each year on the Boardman Lake in Traverse City. We offer a Beginner's and Intermediate/Advanced sweeping classes geared towards learning and enjoying the sport. Those that are certified to row without a coach/launch may row up to two more times per week. Must have previously attended an Int/Adv Rowing class or obtained a rower evaluation by a coach. Private coaching is available.
Sculling
On-water sculling is generally offered between June and September, with the option to start in May if you are certified at a level II or above. We offer Beginner and Non-Coached sculling options. Beginner sculling courses requires a coach to be present. Private coaching is available.
Prerequisite for Non-Coached sculling: must be certified by a coach. Must follow TACR handbook rules for sculling. Boat reservations must be made on iCrew in one-hour increments during daylight hours for Traverse City. Punch cards are available for purchase. Open Sculling runs all spring/summer, water and air temperature dependent (air + water temp > 90 degrees). Times: Sunrise to Sunset using timeanddate.com set for Traverse City.
All Rower Requirements
All rowers regardless of experience must sign the following forms (found under "Resources" on the website) and complete the safety and SafeSport trainings, prior to launching on the water every season:
