Mike Stemo

Mike began rowing at the University of Wisconsin in 1976, where he was a member of two National Championships teams. Mike was then away from rowing until 1993, when he coached at the Norwalk Rowing Club, and organized the Northeast Junior Championship Regatta in 1998. During this time, Mike also resumed rowing competitively, winning numerous northeastern Masters races between 1996 to 2000. After moving to Grand Rapids in 2001, Mike joined the Grand Rapids Rowing Association, serving as its president until 2008. Following a move to Northern Michigan, Mike first joined the Lake Leelanau Rowing Club as a coach and officer. In 2015, Mike transitioned to Traverse Area Community Rowing, as both a coach and board member, bringing along his passion for the advancement of youth and adult rowing.

“As a coach, it is great to see the enthusiasm of new rowers developing their skills. Plus putting individuals in contact with an outdoor activity that can be part of a lifelong experience.”
